State transportation officials plan to have a new hiking path up and running in time for walkers, runners and bikers to enjoy the changing colors on the trees flanking the old Harger Trail.

''We expect to finish construction by fall,'' said Jay E. Reithel, planner for the state Department of Transportation's Bay region office.

The paved path will stretch from Kueffner Park in Buena Vista Township to the M-15 Heritage Route in Tuscola County.
