One of Dunbar’s biggest attractions will get a significant facelift with a grant obtained by the city’s recreation department, City Council members were told Tuesday.
Connie Fulknier, head of the city’s recreation department, said a $46,000 grant will be used to upgrade the hiking trail at Dunbar’s Wine Cellar Park. Eighty percent of the grant will be funded by the state Department of Transportation,
The council approved funding its portion of the project Tuesday. Fulknier said that would include bridge repair and construction, gravel for the trail, and measures to ensure handicapped accessibility.
Mayor Roger Wolfe said one of his top priorities this year would be to upgrade Dunbar’s parks and recreation facilities.
The council also recognized the members of Cub Scout Pack 46 with community service awards for their “operation cleanup” efforts along the Wine Cellar trail.
In other action:
s The council approved obtaining bids from the state’s approved list of Certified Public Accountants for conducting the town’s audits for fiscal years 2005-06 and 2006-07.
s Mayor Roger Wolfe delayed presentation of his “state of the city” speech until February.
s Litigation between the mayor and council members over various control issues has not yet been resolved. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 5, Councilwoman Connie Boardman said.
