Hiking Paths in the Works for Richland Township

It's home to rare birds and other wildlife. But soon the Quakertown Swamp in Bucks County may be a top destination for people. WFMZ's Joscelyn Moes tell us about a local conservation group's plans for a switch at the swamp.  >> Reporter A diverse habitat. >> 3:28-3:31--Karen Williamson It's a great place for reptiles and amphibians. >> Reporter The Quakertown Swamp ... is a 518-acre wetland ... >> 3:36-3:38--Karen Williamson You have plants trying to come up through standing water. >> Reporter The largest inland wetland in Bucks County. >> Nat: walking through woods >> Reporter Now the Heritage Conservancy ... along with Richland Township ... has plans to make this lush land ... visitor-friendly. The conservancy hopes to develop a 1 and 1/2 mile network of seven hiking trails. They'll sit on about 57 acres off Route 313 and Paletown Road in Richland Township. >> 8:02-8:09--Gene Sirni It'll be a combination of the 11 acres that Richland Township owns and the 46 acres that the Conservancy owns. >> 16:11-16:17--Standup Right now visitors can only see the swamp from afar but soon they'll be able to get right into the thick of things. >> 6:47-6:51--Gene Sirni Come and see it, understand it, develop an appreciation for it. >> Reporter The conservancy hopes to create the first three trails by 2009. It's currently working on getting the necessary permits.
