Deputies are investigating the death of a young man identified as an active Marine from Camp Pendleton.

The body of a man dressed in military fatigues was found in a drainage ditch by a hiker about 50 feet up a hillside near the 1000 block of Calle Cordillera in San Clemente

Investigators say the marine had at least one gunshot wound to the chest. It is not known if the man was shot at the scene or dumped there. A weapon has not been found.

The victim's identify has not been released. He is only described as a 21-year old married man from the Sacramento area.
