Just south of Eagle Harbor, along the coast roads lies Port Blakely. In the park down the walking trails to the beach, there is an abandoned mill.
The mill is layered with graffiti and strewn with skateboard stuff and general evidence of semi-rebel behavior.
Alongside the mill is an intact mill pond, connected to the Sound through a narrow run of tidal water. The logs were sent
through at high tide where they were floated on the millpond until the were fed into saw blades.
There are some good hiking trails here – a great place for birdwatching. In fact, while we were there, an eagle swooped down to size up our dog. Fortunately, on this day dog was not on the menu.
