DORSET, Ont. - A network of hiking trails in central Ontario's Haliburton region has officially been designated for snowshoeing this winter.

Nine trails in the network stretch a total of more than 75 kilometres, creating one of the most extensive snowshoeing options in the province, according to a news release issued by Haliburton Highlands Tourism.

The trails range in length from 750 metres to 10 kilometres, and in difficulty from easy to challenging.

Locations include areas near Carnarvon, Oxtongue Lake, Halls Lake, Kennisis Lake, Frost Centre near Dorset, and the village of Haliburton.

One-and three-day packages are being offered that include snowshoeing and other winter activities, said Amy Brohm, tourism co-ordinator for Haliburton County.
