The Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy is promoting hiking or biking on a restored multi-use trail in Cherokee Park as a way to celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday. The trail, which was rebuilt last fall, starts at Hogan's Fountain.
Trails Day participants also can help work on other trails from 9 a.m. to noon, starting at Chauffeur's Rest , which is on Barret Hill Road between Cherokee and Sulgrave roads. They would be joining volunteers from the conservancy, Kentucky Mountain Bike Association, The Trail Store and other groups.
The Conservancy and Quest Outdoors stores also are selling "Hike Every Trail" t-shirts for $20, with half the purchase cost going to support the conservancy. It's a nonprofit organization devoted to restoring, enhancing and preserving Louisville’s historic parks and parkways conceived by Frederick Law Olmsted, known as "the father of landscape architecture."
