Park has 10-trail hiking challenge
By Akron Beacon Journal

The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is offering a summer challenge to hikers.

Hikers are asked to complete 10 of 13 designated trails in the 33,000-acre federal park between Akron and Cleveland between June 1 and Sept. 30.

Participants who complete the 2008 Cuyahoga Challenge will earn a commemorative patch designed by Akron artist Chuck Ayers.

The trails range from 1.5 miles to 12.4 miles and from easy to difficult.

The free program is being staged by the park, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association, a friends-of-the-park group, and North Akron Savings Bank.

Last year, 330 participants successfully completed the hiking program, said Joanna Caley of the friends' group.
