Authorities continue their investigation into the human remains found on a hiking trail in the San Jacinto Mountains Sunday.
This discovery along with the discovery of the remains of a man missing in Running Springs since January has brought up the importance of safety and preparation in the wilderness.
Hikers on the San Jacinto trails Monday say the trail is manageable but confusing.
"I guess they could make it look a little more clear," said visitor Candace Candelaria, who was visiting from San Francisco, about the Museum Trail in Palm Springs. "It was kinda difficult because the trail split off kind of everywhere so it was really hard to figure out what was the trail."
With the unpredictable nature in hiking, people on the trails can easily be prone to getting lost.
That's why experts say to plan ahead and prepare for the worst before heading out.
They also say to check the weather forecast, bring plenty of water, go with someone, or tell a friend where you will be and stay on the trail.
One visiting hiker from Seattle also raised the importance of having extra food and water on hand just to make sure.
And experts say if anything happens and you can't get out, call or send for help.
"If I could tell anybody anything, it's to just stay put," Lee Arnson with Riverside Mountain Rescue said. "We'll get to you eventually."
