Priest in fair condition after hiking mishap
By Denver Post

A Broomfield priest was in fair condition Friday at a Grand County hospital after being rescued following a 30-hour disappearance.

A group of hikers found 62-year-old Monsignor Edward M. Hoffmann late Thursday, but a Grand County rescue team was not able to get Hoffmann back to a trailhead until early Friday.

The hikers were traveling the Continental Divide and had taken a scenic detour when they found Hoffman. One of the group, whose name has not been released, stayed with the monsignor while the others sought help.

Hoffmann had gone out on a long hike Wednesday but hurt his knee and was unable to walk back to the trailhead.
