After months of conditioning and fundraising, Boy Scouts of Troop 149 of Fort Leonard Wood completed the Hiking merit badge by hiking 20 miles at Shiloh National Military Park in Shiloh, Tenn., March 20.
As the Scouts hiked the 20 miles, they studied monuments and memorials, navigated the trails, and learned about the Civil War battle that took place on the grounds April 6-7, 1862.
Below, morning sun filters through the haze on the chilly morning as Scouts from Troop 149 start the day’s hike.
Right and below right, the Scouts stop to inspect monuments and memorials to the Civil War battle during their hike.
