Tacoma Mountaineers offer introduction to hiking
By TheNewsTribune.com,

If you are not sure what it takes to get started hiking and backpacking in the Northwest, the Tacoma Mountaineers might have the answer for you on Tuesday.

The presenters, hike leaders from the Tacoma Mountaineers, will cover basic clothing, conditioning and gear needed for safe enjoyment of hiking and backpacking in the Northwest.

“The Mountaineers’ Outdoor Essentials are one of the hallmarks of all our trips. By the end of the evening, you will understand what these essentials are and why they are essential for a successful outing,” said Amy Mann, one of the presenters.

The presentation will also include information on how Mountaineers trips are organized and on how to join. Prospective members can go on two Mountaineers trips as guests before joining.

The event will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Tacoma Mountaineers Clubhouse, 2302 N. 30th St., Tacoma.

The cost is $5 per person. You can register online at www.mountaineers.org to pay by credit card or pay at the door with exact change or check.

For more information, contact Mann at agmann@comcast.net">agmann@comcast.net or 253-759-2796. Information on signing the necessary waiver can be found at www.mountaineers.org.
